film studies class trip to tinsel town today to see this this flick, Slum Dog Millionaire, a couple very reliable sources have told me it's amazing (one that never fails being the japanese half of RE-definedope) turns out I didn't have work at puma today, but it was actually tmr. my bad.
prior the movie I met up with my best ACE-it buddy Nik, and were running tight on time. 7:30 showing was packed, which was the one my class was in, agreed to 'fck it' and refunded for 9:00. with all that time we explored every nook of the mall, which we ended up with the conclusion that its a giant money laundering business(in actuality I chatted up with some store owners and the mall is owned ny the third largest development company in the world, so money can be lost). realized how awesome Tinsel Town was, theres this obscure little shop in one of the corners called One Stop Cards & Games, the girl working there were was nice and inside was a couch and tables. basically its for Magic The Gathering players to battle and a couch for video games. doesn't cost a single dime to use the tables or game on the ps3 hooked up to the bitchin' huge lcd tv.
chit-chatted with the store owner and he offered lessons to play magic which we're probably going to take up for the hell of it, which cost nothing. with that I came up with something film-wise and will elaborate on in a furture post. whats even moreso interesting is they open 'till 1 in the morning. with all honestly in my life, I have never in my life met friendlier geeks.

pictures property of AHA MEDIA.
also something else I found were vancouverisawesome shirts from the contest at this Ayden Gallery on the second floor, the gallery was the one that printed them and they have ties to bob k.
Tinsel Town is such a great theatre, chairs are big & comfy and a couple of the theatres you can put the armrest up and get comfy with your dates if you know what I mean, not to mention its not packed at all which means you never see people you know(I hate running the people I know and don't like and probably don't talk to anymore at a certain mall at 4700 Kingsway, also don't ask how I remember the building number =____=).
aside from theatre employees are zombies, the little arcade thats overpriced and crappy, the junkie ensemble 'round the corner, who in the years i've coasted through the area have never given me trouble. heads up about the Street Fighter 3rd Strike machine in the corner; kick button on the Player One doesn't work.
so after s'more loitering and looking of tinsel town we headed in for the movie. I went in not knowing what to expect, some words floating around that I heard were; bollywood, who wants to be a millionaire, ghetto, violence, muslims and india. if you haven't seen it thinking of a typical plotline that ties all of those elements seems means this movie must be out there. but the film is of the past, which leads to the present. the film weaves togther the story like butta, tells such a powerful story. I remember one scene of Jamaal's past that got me sucked in that I forgot where he was presently and it was actually a flashback. me saying this might end the movie so i'm putting a spoiler alert starting NOW, I left with such a feel-good-feeling. even still i'm a bit shaken up from it's storytelling powers. it was a bit cheesy but because it was so good I'll omit it.
if you haven't seen it run/fly/teleport to the closest theatre playing it and bask in it's glory equip with the face-melting power of film.
after the movie, 11pm walking around a mall at night really hit deep.
and if you don't know what I mean;
VS.
to strengthen the fact i'm not crazy, fellow Dead Rising fan Nik(also the one responsible for lending me the game) felt that way about the mall too.
moreso of a zombie mall feeling because this week i've had my buddy's 360 because he's out of town for a bit and I asked nicely enough. DEAD RISING has been something i've been wanting to play forever and Allah has answered my prayers by giving me this week with the 360. the game itself is revolutionary, surviving in a mall for 3 days(6 hours in our time) fending off hordes of zombies using anything thats available in the mall as a weapon. this includes; chainsaws, sludge hammers, katanas to chairs, tenis raquets or even toy light sabers.
saturday rye and I decided a 360 marathon in my basement. met up after practice and picked up some snacks and so it began. gears of war disk error'd on us partway through. thus turning the night into a Dead Rising zombie bloodbath of well over 1000 kills 1100 kills . I remember asking at 5am if maybe we should stop, "meh" game on. I gave into sleep as ryan trenched those mfckn' zombos. woke up some couple hours later to drive ryan home and to work sunday brunch at Horizons with barely any sleep. all in all the marathon desensitized us to killing mindless shells of humans and therefore considered a SUCCESS.
ps. aren't rupees the currency used in the world of Zelda?

...why not?
I hesitate, but why?
that a question I've been asking lately and it's still floating in there somewhere. Maybe I'm afraid I can't be my best, I don't want to let you down, or anyone down as a matter of fact. It might not seem like it but I don't believe in myself as much as I'd like to. That crushing feeling deep the chest, it's a horrible feeling and I'd rather not recieve or dish it out. I think it'll be better this way.

sights and sounds: HEARTS ON FIRE
if you've noticed I like to put up random music videos that I really dig up top. music videos, having a special place in my heart, combining the two loves of my life. I've decided to start writing up on why and how I dig them.
first up is Hearts on Fire by CUT COPY, one of my many favourites off their latest, Ghost Colours. Directed by Nagi Noda(r.i.p) it starts off with a cool POV establishing shot to a pan of the convertible, which is an appropirate choice for what is to come. car passes a street light and BAM! rain comes in as he bawls his eyes out. the rest of the video follows the protagonist through his daily life with the rain. Clever play on action with wiping the tears to washing his face, effective in the video's mesage. sick saxaphone riff comes in about 2:20.
it gets better for our protagonist as not only him, but as it seems the whole world rains as well. until we meet the ex, and as she leaves the rain returns. poor guy.
the song itself reminds me of What Is Love, from the female sample vocal (woah-ohh) and the baseline.
the film stock(look of video) reflects the song's 80's dance/new wave influence. the video touches really well on the feeling of heartbreak and is an accurate take on the subject. not to mention the song is catchy(and a bit haunting in a good way), though being repetitive it works!
there we have it ladies and gentleman, a fantastic music video.

if i were a boy.
a bboy to be exact because this stupid ankle thing is killing me.
it's been a bit over three weeks and it still hasn't healed up completely, I was trying a flip and I landed on my left foot wrong and busted my ankle.
on friday I was in surrey and had a battle with matt and I bailed from a couple zulu spins after twisting it the wrong way and holy was the pain excruciating. with three weeks with no bboying and going all out on monday, one because I've healed a bit more and two because derrick was visiting from toronto. woke up the next day feeling sore as EVER, and to be honest it feels nice in a masochistic way.
last night I spent about FOUR hours cleaning my room all for the chance to make 40 bones off www.RE-definedope.blogspot.com, hopefully I can keep it clean until I can shoot my video piece on how hip-hop my room is.
NEW puma shipment comes in JAN.8, there better be some dope ish on that truck.

actual truth, [note to self]is just to be honest and compassionate, put yourself in other's shoes and respect them for what they are, love the world and dont stop. be kind and say what you wanna say, while you still can, love the people you care for while you still can, have a voice thats flexible and open to thought and critisism. and dont let things bother you, they win if you let it. stop taking shit for granted and do something with your life. fuck materialism, you know damn right in your heart you dont rep that game. like dodge, grab life by the friggin horns and get the most out of it, beat the living shit to make your ticket in the ride of life worthy of the cost. be remembered and stay true. DONT EVERY FORGET THIS brian vu. [/note to self]
(hey i'd love comments for this, because i'll be holding this close to me. so say what you want because i wanna hear it. this post is open to those who i think are worthy of reading it)

its true. thats why i seem to almost never have lazy days!! except christmas... or maybe im just using that as an excuse. but at least i know i dont give a fuck sometimes haha. live life to its fullest, each and every single day. but living life to the fullest, doesnt neccesarily mean doing shit all the time. it jsut means making every moment count.

wow, I think since then, I've gradually been deteriorating in the wisdom department, because this is mindblowing. This is mad inspiring, hard to believe it came from me. this works so well with laina with all the 'our town' refrences in our conversations. I believe this was in grade 9, and hm, how was to ponder this up on boxing day. werd on; fck materialism. Also belie dat this is the first of many douglas'. and nobody get any smart ideas to find my old xanga and read them all before I can post them. *ahem rye*
Is that the reason...
why I've been mad? because she left? 6 whole months ago?? as someone blatantly placed before me last night and phased me. That someone also made me promise her I make it my resolution to get over her. damn she's good.
I'm a wreck.
Running on >2 hours of sleep,
still sick, stress prior to 2009,
and gross from being out all night.
Good party. two waffle makers and Church's chicken.
here I am, 2009
ready to rock you like a hurricane.
